Privacy Policy

Effective June 10, 2026

Kept is built so that your data stays in your control. The short version: the Kept app collects no personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no developer-operated servers that store your recipes. The only personal data we ever receive is what you choose to send us through the support form, described below.

Who we are

Kept is made by Jesse Bergslien, who is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy. You can reach us through the support form.

Data the app collects

None. The Kept app has no accounts, contains no analytics frameworks and no third-party tracking of any kind, and sends no information about you or your usage to us. If you have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers in your device settings, Apple may share anonymized crash reports with us through App Store Connect — that sharing is controlled by Apple and your settings, not by Kept.

Where your recipes are stored

Your recipes are saved as plain-text Cooklang files in your own iCloud Drive, in the Kept folder, along with any photos you attach. They sync between your devices through your personal iCloud account under Apple's privacy terms. We have no access to your iCloud data. If iCloud is unavailable, recipes are stored locally on your device instead.

Camera and photo library

Kept asks for camera access only when you scan a recipe card or take a photo of a dish, and photo library access only when you import an image or attach one to a recipe. Images are stored alongside your recipes in your iCloud Drive and are never uploaded to us.

Apple Intelligence and AI features

Kept uses Apple Intelligence to classify recipes and convert imports into recipe format. These requests are handled by Apple — on your device where possible, and otherwise through Apple's Private Cloud Compute — under Apple's privacy commitments. Prompts, photos, and recipe text are never sent to us.

Recipe generation, coming this fall, will work the same way through Apple Intelligence. If any feature ever changes how or where it processes your data, we will update this policy before the change takes effect.

Importing recipes from the web

When you import a recipe from a link, your device fetches that web page directly — the same as visiting it in your browser. These requests are user-initiated, go only to the site you chose, and are not routed through, logged, or stored by us. The site you import from receives the same information it would if you visited it in your browser (such as your IP address) and is governed by its own privacy policy.

Support messages

If you contact us through the support form, we receive the name, email address, and message you provide. Submissions are delivered to us by Web3Forms, which processes them on our behalf, and are used only to reply to you — never for marketing. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to resolve your request, then deleted. Because we are based in the United States, support messages are processed there.

This website

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics. It is hosted on Cloudflare, whose infrastructure processes standard server logs (such as your IP address) in order to serve and protect the site.

Your rights and deleting your data

Your recipes never pass through us — they are yours, and you can delete them at any time by removing the files from your iCloud Drive or device. For anything you have sent us through the support form, you can ask us at any time to access, correct, or delete it, and we will do so promptly. Depending on where you live, these rights may also be guaranteed by law — for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK (which additionally gives you the right to complain to your data-protection authority) or the CCPA in California. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA.

Children's privacy

Kept is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has sent us personal data through the support form, contact us and we will delete it.

Legal disclosures

We may disclose support correspondence if required to do so by law or a valid legal process.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with an updated effective date. For material changes — such as a feature beginning to process data in a new way — we will give prominent notice on this page and in the app before the change takes effect.
